"I don't know who invented the high heel but women owe him a lot."
-Marilyn Monroe
I know a lot of women are absolutely in love with shoes and always mention how no one could have more shoes then them. Of course, anyone who watches Sex and the City knows about Carrie's shoe infatuation. However, I'm not a huge shoe fanatic, at least not compared to Carrie! I'm not in love with shoes or pride myself on my shoe collection, but don't get me wrong, when I discover amazing heels I'll jump at it. And I can not dispute what high heels do for a woman.
High heels are just "beautiful, sexy, and feminine." The Classic Ten talks about how the high heel literally does not serve any other purpose besides making a woman look good. "Compared with her flat-footed sisters, a woman in high heels is a siren, watched by men and women alike- though often for different reasons."
For the most part heels are widely-adored: Madonna once said Blahniks are better than sex-- and they last longer. Fashion photographer David Bailey loves heels for a different reason: "I like high heels-- I know it's chauvinistic. It means girls can't run away from me." Well put.
The book mentions two designers specifically that excel in the fashion world with their shoe designs: Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik. I don't know much about high heels besides what I've read, but I still knew about these designers. Perhaps from Sex and the City reruns and many viewings of The Devil Wears Prada... All I know is when I look at these Jimmy Choo ads, all I can think of is SEXY. Who knew shoes could do so much for us? Perhaps Marilyn Monroe was right, we do owe the inventor of heels a lot!

| That's right, Blahnik designed shoes especially for the movie Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst. I love these heels, anything vintage or French is a yes in my book. |
As for my own personal style, there are three trends or styles that I particularly love: lace-up booties, heels with bows, and the classic platform pump.
1. Lace-Up Booties: It just seems very British and has a masculine style, and both of those I love, obviously. Yet it still has a sexy yet innocent heel.
2. Heels with Bows: It's just adorable, isn't it? They are so girly and classy- and these shoes completely avoid the gaudy.. which is good! If lace-ups are British then shoes with bows are French.
3. Classic Platform Pumps: These are just so elegant and timeless to me. There is nothing complicated about it and they go with any outfit. Pumps are just the perfect heel! Plus they give you height... and then some more.
I do admit my shoe collection should expand, especially my selection of high heels. It's hard though when you don't have many occasions to wear heels to! But I know when I answer the call of the big city, the gradual collecting of heels will pay off!
What are your favorite types of heels?
