The Hollywood Issue.

I'm a big fan of award shows. The Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, Oscars, I love them all. Perhaps it's because of the glamour and the celebrities all gathering together for these events, or maybe more realistically-- the fashion. I've begun watching, almost embarrassingly, Fashion Police with Joan Rivers and peeking online at the beautiful designer dresses and men's suits on the red carpet. But what I really love about the award shows are exactly what they are meant to be celebrating-- the movies.

My boyfriend is a HUGE movie buff (he has a double major in Film Studies), and it's beginning to rub off on me. The King's Speech was amazing and I loved The Social Network. This year really was full of amazing films. Anyway, this is a fashion & design blog not a film blog! So here is Vanity Fair's "Hollywood Issue" cover photographed by Norman Jean Roy. It features 14 of "the most exciting actors and actresses of the moment" (Vanity Fair.com) in a very glamourous old hollywood portrait with Robert Duvall serving them behind the bar. What is it about celebrities that make a photograph so interesting? Oh yeah, they're famous.

Also here is a video of the making of the Vanity Fair cover. Ryan Reynolds really makes me laugh, Jesse Eisenberg hasn't gone to see a movie in 3 years, and James Franco had to work this photo shoot around his school schedule. I love the cute Social Network boys and Anne Hatheway & Mila Kunis look absolutely gorgeous.
The other photos from the shoot aren't released just yet, but here are some more lovely editorial-esque photos of some Oscar nominees shot for Vanity Fair in the past.

Best supporting actress nominee: Amy Adams, The Fighter
(November 2008 Issue)

As if you all didn't already know, Best actress nominee: Natalie Portman, Black Swan
(April 2006 Issue)

Best actress nominee: Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
(March 2008 Issue)

Best actress nominee: Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
(December 2005 Issue)

Best actor nominee: Colin Firth, The King's Speech
(March 2010 Issue, with Tom Ford & Julianne Moore)

Best actor nominee: Jeff Bridges, True Grit
(March 2010 Issue, with Scott Cooper)

Best actor nominee: James Franco, 127 Hours
(December 2008 Issue)

Best supporting actress nominee: Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
(March 2011 Issue)

Best actor nominee: Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
(October 2010 Issue)
Best supporting actress nominee: Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit
(January 2011 Issue)

I personally can't wait for the Oscars! My favorite movie/actor would have to be The King's Speech with Colin Firth, but a small part of that love could be because I am a huge anglophile. Who are your Oscar favorites?
